The Picture of Charity
Today I want to share a short thought on charity.
To love is to give without expectation which is why charity is THE greatest kind of love for it transcends feeling or thought – it is a pure love in action regardless of personal sentiments.
When I give a gift, I do not expect one in return, nor do I give it on merit. I do so of my own free will in the hope it blesses and betters the life of the receiver. This is charity – love in action and when charity is returned like a reciprocated hug what a special bond is forged! There is an innocent sweetness that fills each soul because one has given and the other received and the receiving bestows upon the giver a blessing in return.
But where can I find such a love? God – His perfect love that casts out fear is a love with no bottom or shore. He doesn’t love in mere feeling or word. He loves deeply and fulfills charity – love in action – like no other. From Him I can draw love like water from a fresh fed well that never runs dry which means I can give charity, liberally.
Charity is the seed of unconditional love. Charity, like faith, is not based on my ability to perform in my own strength. It is based on God’s character that loved all mankind while all mankind were yet sinners.
Hope this gives you a fresh, encouraging picture of charity. Look out for next week’s blog where I will address the cost of charity.
