Keeper of a Soul
This Mother’s Day I present to you a challenge -
As a mom I find myself in a constant cycle of triaging what and who needs my attention.
Some needs are practical – some necessary – some total distractions
It is easy for me to live day by day and in a way I should but there is something to be said of looking forward.
If I only look at the ground at my feet and fail to observe where I am walking I will either find myself stepping in circles or into things or off a potential cliff.
My focus must be dual. Here and now but ever sweeping the horizon.
My children are precious souls and so are yours
They need our attention today, our dedication for tomorrow and our vision for the future.
My challenge for you and myself is to look at our children today and envision how we are going to equip them spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically for tomorrow, next week, next year and so on.
Sounds intimidating and it is but it is also more simple than it seems.
Are we willing to show up every day and let God open up the growing opportunities?
Are we willing to stop, talk and think with our child through hard situations they are wrestling? (It is hard to see my child struggle through something but it is also so sweet and rewarding to watch them overcome and if they make a bad choice, learn from mistakes!)
Are we willing to ask questions that take an ordinary moment and turn it into an extraordinary deep dive of learning that may bring answers that challenge and surprise us? (This has happened SO many times!!)
Are we willing to let our child question things while also teaching them where and how we as Christians define truth? (My children know I am a safe place and will bring them to the Lord and His heart, and not force my personal agenda)
Are we willing to stay humble and let our life be an example of grace, forgiveness, and growth? (Letting my children witness my faults and victories show them in real time what it is to be human, humble and healthy minded and that I am living what I teach)
In short, are we willing to surrender and yield our life to the Lord? He will direct our paths. He will show us the things He wants us to teach and pass on to our kids if only we let Him. I say this from personal experience.
As a mama you have been given the responsibility to be the keeper of a soul. Keep it well knowing the Lord is keeping you.
“The LORD is thy keeper”
