Thursday Tippity Tip - How to NOT be a Pharisee in 6 steps

Last Thursday was how to be a Pharisee in 6 steps. As promised in that post, this Thursday I want to address how to combat becoming a Pharisee in 6 steps! This list correlates to the other one so for ease of reading I have put both lists below in a Do-Don't comparison type list with last weeks bullet point list in italics.

Step 1.

DO: Seek what the Bible says and then apply it to your life by choosing to do the right thing even when it is hard, not popular, requires you to apologize or feels unfamiliar at first.

DON'T: Twist the word of God to fit personal agenda

Step 2.

DO: Keep heart open to those who are sharing God's truth into your life even when those truths initially might sting (but do check everything they say against the scriptures because no one is 100% accurate).

DON'T: Launch personal attacks against tellers of God's truth

Step 3.

DO: Avoid spiritual elitism by thinking less about yourself and more about others by keeping in mind that only by the grace of God are you even where you are right now

DON'T: Mock others while demonstrating spiritual elitism

Step 4.

DO: Realize we are all sinners saved by grace and choose to live out that grace in your speech, heart and actions. The only person you deceive is yourself when you deny your own flawed humanity

DON'T: Deny reality of personal sin and feign a false persona of self righteousness

Step 5.

DO: Keep seeking and looking for fresh our pourings of God and welcome them when the come!

DON'T: Value your sacred religious traditions above a fresh and current movement of God

Step 6.

DO: Celebrate what God is doing even if it doesn't fit your ideas about traditions. If it is squared up with scripture then embrace it!

DON'T: Demonize, insult and seek to kill the challenger of the status quo and/or any fresh movement of God
